Description: Conversion of an unfinished attic, including the addition of a new staircase

In a multi-generational home, a young couple living on the second level needed more space to accommodate a growing family. At first glance the unfinished attic did not hold much promise as the footprint proved small and the ceiling rather low.

The challenge was getting the stairs to function safely while also not eating up the usable footprint of the attic. Our solution was to ride the ridge of the existing roofline, and to add a long skylight as you ascend the stairs for light and headroom.
